Mustang & Burro Events Lewis & Clark Mustang History, part 2 | | Sparky Goes Back To The BLM - as an AmbassadorSparky is now a year old. All of a sudden he's not such a small "pony" anymore. At the beginning of October, he's 13.3 1/2 hands high, and has muscled up and filled out considerably over the summer.
In mid-October, Edona Miller told us that the BLM was needing 20 gentled mustangs to come to the big Roseville adoption and celebration for the 30-year anniversary of wild horse adoptions. We decided to take Sparky. We THOUGHT he could handle it. But you never know for sure until you try.
Sparky was SO GOOD! HE had people of all sizes and energy levels petting him, poking at him, trying to feed him, running up to him, little kids hanging off his fence, sticking their heads through it, etc for 5 hours, and he was a perfect, cute little gentleman the whole time. Well, he panicked once, when I walked him too close to the area where they were loading the new adoptees into trailers. Maybe it brought back memories. But anyway it was a brief incident, and he composed himself as soon as he headed back to the petting pens. This was an especially satisfying and rewarding experience for us: to have spent so much time and love and energy bringing this little horse to this point, and finding that he really IS up to the challenge.
